KOTA: Another case of farmer suicide has come to light in Baran district. Mangi Lal Meena, 43, a resident of Kheri village, Chhipa Barod tehsil, Baran, committed suicide on Thursday night.
Mangi Lal was under stress for the last few days. His crops of soybean and urad got destroyed. Murli Manohar Meena, brother-in-law of Mangi Lal Meena, said, "Mangi Lal had told people in Kheeri that he did not have any hope left.

"What will I do? What will I sow next year? How will I support my sons' education? Mangi Lal had been troubled by these questions following his crop failure," said Murli Manohar.
Mangi Lal had 12-bigha land. This year, his field yielded just two gunny bags of soyabean. He had taken a loan of Rs 1.2 lakh, added Murli Manohar.
"Mangi Lal had said to me that he would kill himself. But I did not take him seriously. He was also worried about education of his sons whom he wanted to make doctors. I told him that all was not lost. We had the option of selling one or two bighas of land," said Murli Manohar.
His one son is 16 years old and studies in Class XII, while another is 14 years old and studies in Class IX.
"On Thursday, he went to clear the farm with his family, broke garlic pods for sowing. Upon returning, he told villagers that he had paid his last dok (respects) to matarani (goddess). Nobody understood what his intentions were," said Murli Manohar. He entered his room, locked the door and hanged himself with his wife's sari. His family returned in the evening and found the door locked. They broke the door and rushed Mangi Lal to a hospital in Seemabarod where doctors declared him dead. "We did not go to the police as we knew that Mangi Lal had taken this decision on his own," said Murli Manohar.

It may be mentioned here that one Babu Lal, 40, who owned 10-bigha land in Pancho Ki Talab area in Kishanganj, had also killed himself by jumping in front of a train in Mandola following his inability to repay a loan.
However, Lalit Kumar Gupta, collector, Baran, said Babu Lal did not commit suicide because of loan pressure or crop loss. The reason for his death was a 'tussle' with his brother over a tractor, Gupta said.
According to reports, two more farmers - Deen Dayal and Giriraj Nagar - had also reportedly committed suicide in the recent past following their crop failure.
